Jakarta Public Works Agency is targeting to finish the work on Jakarta’s main street puddle problem by this year. The project is part of a packaged program targeted to be solved by the end of the year with Rp 500 billion of total budget.


“The governor has given the order. That’s why we’ll be focusing on the work this year,” the agency’s Water Resources Management Division Head Fahrurrozi said on Monday, June 21.

The work will go to puddles in 33 spots in the city, which include Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, Jalan Sabang, Jalan Sumenep, Hotel Mandarin’s side way, South Arjuna, Jalan Pangeran Jayakarta, Menteng, Kampung Bandan, Gatot Subroto (in front of Jakarta Police HQ), Kebon Nanas, Pasar Jumat and Yos Sudarso.

The puddles will be minimized by drainage depletion, increasing the number of ropes, drainage enhancement and pump installment. Drainage construction and canal suction to help the water reach the main channel faster will also be established.

Fahrurrozi also said one of 19 development programs carried out this year, which is the Rp 6 billion Situ Arman Pendongkelan dyke building, was cancelled due to location issue. Part of the dyke is within Depok territory while the other is in Jakarta. The government also reportedly took part in the construction.

Meanwhile, other development programs have reached the auction stage. The programs include the channel development on Jalan Wahid Hasyim and Jalan Sunda, Thamrin channel crossing linking to Cideng River and Cideng pump establishment.

There are also Siantar long storage program, Pasar Jumat sewer suction, Kapuk I and Kapuk II pump constructions, Kapuk Poglar pump building, Pesing Poglar sewer line automation system establishment and Ancol River-crossing Bandan village canal work.
